Overview

The BLMG Committee is pleased to announce that, in keeping with our mission statement of breaking down economic and social barriers to create a more inclusive game of golf, we have established a free grassroots Junior Mentorship Program (JMP) for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) youth in Nova Scotia ages 12 to 17.

Phase 1

LEAD BY NSGA TECHNICAL DIRECTOR ANNE BALSER & BLMG

  • Who: BLMG x 10 mentors, NSGA x 1, BIPOC youth x 20.
  •  What: BLMG-JMP will introduces BIPOC youth to golf & create a greater awareness of the BLM movement.
  • When: 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. on April 10th, April 24th, May 8th & May 22nd, 2021.
  • Where: The first 3 dates will be indoor training at the BMO Soccer Center Indoor Field #4, located at 210 Randall Drive, in Halifax, NS. The last date of May 22nd will be held at Grandview Golf and Country Club at 431 Crane Hill Road in East Preston, NS.
  • Why: Black, Indigenous and People of Colour have been historically excluded from the game of golf. Therefore, BLMG will use golf as a platform to bring greater awareness to the Black Lives Matter social justice movement while breaking down economic and social barriers for BIPOC youth.
  • How: In the first 30 minutes we will have an educational component consisting of guest speakers and age appropriate discussions on the issue of racial discrimination in society and in sports. Golf clubs will be provided for this BLMG-JMP and the next 60 minutes will be under the direction of NSGA golf professional Anne Balser. With the assistance of experienced BLMG mentors who together will provide golf drills, skills and games with at least a 2 to 1 ratio between the BLMG mentors and the BIPOC junior mentees.

  • Why: Black, Indigenous and People of Colour have been historically excluded from the game of golf. Therefore, BLMG will use golf as a platform to bring greater awareness to the Black Lives Matter social justice movement while breaking down economic and social barriers for BIPOC youth.

BLMG also squeezed in one clinic for BIPOC women.
